"Water Aid" denotation and connotation

The denotations of this Water Aid advert are: writing in a dirty font, a young boy, a stone wall and a building. The connotations of the dirty font would be poor sanitary conditions. The connotations of the young boy would be innocence and weakness to show how susceptible children are to illness. The young boy isn't smiling to show he might be sad or suffering. The writing shows that due to a lack of toilets people may suffer death as graves have to be dug for them. The point of this advert would be to raise awareness of the lack of water or sanitation here so people will help more. The target audience being parents as parents would have children of their own and feel sympathetic towards the child, or adults with disposable income so that they can help the charity.
